Design and Technology
Design and technology equips children with the creativity and aspiration to contribute to the innovations of our future society. Our intent is to ensure that the children at St. Lawrence leave as ‘designers of the future’ with a clear knowledge of the complete design process. Design and technology learning will be inspiring, relevant and engaging, by providing an investigative, practical and creative approach. Where appropriate and meaningful, learning is cross-curricular and linked to children’s topics. Our curriculum provides a balanced approach to learning about structures, textiles and food and nutrition. Throughout the school, each stage of the whole design process is carefully balanced, so that the research, design, making and evaluating elements are equally valued. There is a clear progression of knowledge, concepts and skills between year groups to ensure that the curriculum is coherent and systematically covered. The curriculum provides challenge and support at all levels, with a focus on equality and inclusion, to ensure that all individual needs are met.
