Y6 - World War 2 - Rainbow Theatre experience
As part of our WWII topic we are pleased to let you know that we have organised the Rainbow Theatre Group to join us at school during Thursday 5th November 2026.
The workshop will be set in London during September 1939 when war had been declared. The performance sees the children being evacuated to the countryside. There they will learn about life and rationing. Returning to London, they experience the Blitz, but spirits are kept lively with a sing-song and entertainment from the ARP Wardens.
Part workshop, part show this is a fun interactive experience where the children will, should they wish to, perform alongside the actors whilst being immersed in the way of life during WWII.
To fully immerse the children in the spirit of the workshops, we would love it if they could come to school that day dressed as an evacuee. There is no need to buy a costume, shorts, a shirt, long socks and a flat cap works well for boys, and some sort of dress with a tank top and socks for girls is effective too! An identity tag and a cardboard ‘gas mask’ box also adds to the look!
The cost of the workshop is £4.95. We ask that your contribution is made via Scopay or via cash/debit card at the school office.
Although the contribution is voluntary, we do need to point out that it is essential in order for the workshop to go ahead. We appreciate that some families may find it particularly difficult to contribute all or part of the suggested sum and no child will be treated differently if this is the case. If you feel that you are in such a position, please do not hesitate to contact your class teacher in confidence to discuss whether some suitable arrangements can be made to cover the cost of your child’s participation.
