History
History is all around us. The study of history ignites children’s curiosity about the past, both in Britain and the wider world. Through this study, children understand how the past influences the present. Our intent is to stimulate the children’s curiosity in order for them to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding. We will achieve this through cross-curricular, as well as discrete, teaching as part of a topic-based approach. The school’s own rich history - within the context of the local area - is a celebrated. The curriculum draws from and makes full use of the immediate and wider local area, enabling children to develop a deep understanding of the rich history of their locality. Children at St. Lawrence are taught to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement. They are encouraged to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups.
