Music
At St. Lawrence, music is an integral part of the school. Our intent is to ensure that children are provided with creative and purposeful opportunities to enjoy music and develop musical confidence in a practical way. Singing is a key part of the music curriculum and this is used to access and develop other areas of the subject. Pupils listen to a wide range of genres from different cultures and traditions, developing and expressing opinions and increasing their aural memory. Children will compose using a variety of stimuli and for a range of purposes, both individually and collaboratively. During the course of their time at St. Lawrence, pupils learn to perform with confidence and to become reflective musicians, who are able to evaluate their own compositions, as well as that of others. We maximise and explore cross-curricular links, where these are legitimate. The music curriculum is supported within and beyond the classroom through peripatetic instrumental lessons and a range of musical extra-curricular clubs.
